About us
In addition, TV events such as the Nobel Peace Prize Concert, the Eurovision Song Contest, Pop Idol finals, the Spellemannprisen award ceremony and Oslo Horse Show attract major attention and are very well attended. In 2003, Lord of the Rings III premiered at the arena to an audience of 4,000 people.
Family entertainment events such as Disney on Ice are also popular with the general public.
Conferences/congresses and corporate events have also become increasingly important for Oslo Spektrum. International conferences such as the IUCC (International Union Against Cancer) Cancer Congress, Norwegian State Railways’ 150th Anniversary celebrations and Orkla’s 350th Anniversary celebrations provide good examples of this. The arena is used for plenary sessions and exhibitions, supplemented by smaller conference suites and rooms at the hotels, thus providing a full range of facilities for organisers of events of this nature.
When configured for trade fairs, the arena offers a total floor space of approximately 5,000 sq. metres., which is a medium-sized arena. That said, this is the only trade fair facility in the centre of Oslo.
The location of the building, a short walk from public transport nodes and 2,000 hotel rooms, makes Oslo Spektrum an attractive city centre alternative for congresses and trade fairs. There are numerous multi-storey parking facilities in the vicinity of the concert arena. The nearest overnight accommodation can be found at the Radisson Plaza, Terminal, Rainbow Spectrum, Royal Christiania and Oslo hotels.
As the host of the annual Norwegian championship, the arena has become Norway’s principal handball venue.
Operations
Our statistics show that the arena has received almost 5 million visitors at over 1,500 events during the course of its history. Oslo Spektrum is Norway’s premier arena and is a multi-function facility that over the years has shown itself to be well up to international standards.
The owners
The building comprises the arena and some 8,000 sq. metres of office premises. This and the land on which the building is located is owned by the Norway Trade Fairs Foundation. Norway Trade Fairs owns some 2,500 sq. metres of the office space. The remaining 6,000 or so sq. metres was acquired by Aberdeen in 2006.
